Welcome to our Tubular UF membrane

Pharmaceutical & Chemical

The pharmaceutical and chemical industries generate wastewater streams that are often complex, variable, and difficult to treat. These streams typically contain high concentrations of organic matter, residual solvents, proteins, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), surfactants, and fine suspended solids. Due to the fluctuating composition and poor biodegradability of such effluents, traditional treatment methods often fall short. Tubular ultrafiltration (UF) membranes have emerged as a robust and efficient solution, playing a vital role in both wastewater treatment and product recovery in these demanding environments.

Designed with wide flow channels and high mechanical strength, tubular UF membranes are particularly suited for treating high-strength wastewater containing suspended solids up to 40 g/L. Their cross-flow operation minimizes fouling and clogging, ensuring stable performance even in systems with high viscosity or corrosive components. These membranes are widely used in applications such as pretreatment of reactor discharge, separation of fermentation broth, purification of fine chemicals, and concentration of pharmaceutical process wastewater. By effectively retaining proteins, enzymes, polymers, and unreacted ingredients, UF membranes also serve as a protective barrier for downstream processes such as nanofiltration (NF), reverse osmosis (RO), or evaporation, thereby extending equipment life and improving overall system efficiency.

In pharmaceutical production, especially in the manufacture of antibiotics, vitamins, and enzyme-based products, ultrafiltration is often employed for clarification, concentration, and purification. It enhances product purity and recovery yield while eliminating the need for energy-intensive and contamination-prone methods such as centrifugation or pressure filtration. In chemical processing, UF membranes are used to recover valuable macromolecules, filter out catalyst particles, and serve as a pre-treatment step in Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems.

Tubular UF systems also offer superior chemical resistance and cleaning flexibility. They support multiple cleaning strategies—chemical cleaning, air-water scouring, and backflushing—making them well-suited for long-term operation with minimal maintenance. Modular in design and adaptable to various treatment scales, these systems can be seamlessly integrated into automated and smart water management infrastructures in large-scale pharmaceutical and chemical facilities.

With increasingly stringent environmental regulations and growing pressure for water reuse and pollution control, UF membrane technology has become a cornerstone of sustainable production. Tublis tubular ultrafiltration membranes deliver high precision, outstanding durability, and reliable performance, helping pharmaceutical and chemical companies achieve compliance, reduce operational costs, and move toward cleaner, more efficient industrial processes.
